4 Reasons You Need To Update Your Lighting Systems
Both commercial and residential lighting systems have one thing in common: when they work as they’re supposed to, they’ll make life more efficient.
For homeowners, one of the significant benefits of a smart lighting system is the potential to save money while increasing quality of life. But if you don’t keep your system up-to-date, you may be losing out on the actual impact of these benefits. These four reasons to update your lighting system will help you decide if now is the time.
- Go LED and Save Money
If you’ve had your lighting system for a decade or more, you’re probably losing out on the many advantages of LED lighting. Changing your system to LEDs means cost savings, both on your monthly utility bills and on your ongoing bulb replacement costs; most LEDs have a lifespan over 50,000 hours while traditional bulbs tend to last around 10,000 hours.
- Start Dimming
Dimmable light fixtures give homeowners several benefits: save money by not using bulbs at full capacity when you don’t need to and set moods for different settings in different rooms of the house. Couple your dimmable fixtures with a home automation system and you can control every bulb in the house at any time.
- Control Lights from Anywhere
When you’re going to be away from home, you no longer have to decide if you want to leave all of your lights on or off. Instead, control exterior and interior lighting from your smartphone or mobile device with a touch of a button.
- Strategically Place Lights
The lighting in your home may have been designed decades ago, which means it’s not optimized for today’s family needs. Get variations such as ambient lighting for watching TV in the living room, and bedroom lights that allow for different zones for late-night readers and early sleepers.

How Digital Signage Will Help Your Commercial Business
How is the communication in your commercial space? Are you sharing information with and between your staff solely via email? If so, you and your team may be missing needed information, therefore reducing productivity and morale.
Instead, your internal communications system could use a boost, so that everyone is on the same page, all of the time. Never again worry about a memo not reaching everyone and instead, use digital signage to communicate with your employees effectively.
Imagine that you need to change a weekly meeting – you send an email, and hope that everyone sees. Or, you could use digital signage, and notify anyone who walks by one of your displays to the change immediately.
Perhaps you want to recognize a particular employee or accomplishment, but how many people will see your words and connect them to a face? By celebrating your employees with their picture on a digital sign, no one will forget to offer congratulations.
Connecting social media feeds and hashtags to your digital signage will also keep employees connected to what consumers are saying about your commercial business. Get real-time feedback and share it with your team in seconds.
You can even display company metrics to share your business’s performance with employees. How many clients did you convert in the past quarter? Let your employees know without bombarding them with spreadsheets.
Encourage your employees with inspirational quotes or information that will give them a second to pause outside of the constraints of work. It’s a bonus if you find content that relates to your industry and that will actually be meaningful to employees, rather than parroted from a quotations website.

Are Your Conference Rooms Holding Your Staff Back From Success?
An unfortunate problem for many commercial offices is the lack of a useful conference room. There may be enough seating, and a projector or screen allowing for digital display, but your conference room isn’t truly useful if it's not encouraging productivity in your employees. You want clients to feel comfortable sharing ideas, and staff to engage in positive teamwork. But with the wrong conference room design, you could be sabotaging everyone’s efforts.
Designing the right conference room can be done using any design style and with any budget; consider implementing some of these ideas when planning yours.
- Have a whiteboard where ideas and plans can be written out for everyone to see.
- Make sure there are beverages and food available, particularly for longer meetings, and always have water on hand.
- Don’t paint walls with overwhelming colors, and try and stick to calming colors like lighter yellows or blues.
- Have a large-screen digital display so that everyone on your team can share their assets with the group.
- Try and place conference rooms where there are windows so you can take advantage of natural light. Skip the fluorescent overheads and opt for something more indirect and less harsh.
- Get rid of distractions, whether it’s noisy vents, squeaky doors, or construction next door. The more distractions your conference room has, the less your employees will get done.
- Make sure everyone has somewhere comfortable to sit and enough table space to work on.
- Ensure that conference call phones are always turned on, prepared, and ready to go.
- Have enough outlets and plugs so that everyone can charge phones or computers should they need to
